“A perfect garment is defined by how it moves and interacts with the body. Feminine silhouettes, in particular, require a balance of flattering different parts of the body, as well as making them so that the athlete doesn’t think about the garment. Perhaps even more importantly, it’s about the way the athlete feels in it.”

Design philosophy and inspiration.
Says Johanna Schneider Sr.Design Director, NikeWomen Sportswear. A Nice quote you might think and most certainly a marketable one. Truth however is that this balance of fit and function, and of feel and movement has driven Schneider’s design philosophy and ultimately led to the Nike Sportswear’s Spring ‘17 Tech Knit Collection. It was developed by a team of Knit experts at Nike to strike an equilibrium of sport and style by considering both the material’s capacity and the essence of 'closet staples'.

The collection was inspired by essentials that live in every woman’s closet: the fitted leather jacket, denim jeans, the plain white tee. They have been distilled and then the essence of these garments has been married with Nike materials, like Tech Knit, and methods of make. This has created a sportswear perspective without compromising the benefits of the garment, according to the Nike design team.

Tech Knit explained.
Nike Tech Knit is a knitted fabric (duh) that is made out of a blend of cotton and nylon that gives it a unique look and feel as well as qualities. I've added Nike's product description and details of the women's jacket as shown below and in the title picture to give you more insight about the fabric and the styling highlights.

-Natural Fitting Comfort- The Nike Tech Knit women's jacket offers engineered warmth with exceptionally soft and breathable knit fabric that's complemented with a daring back pleat for a snug yet natural fit.
-Zoned Comfort- Nike Tech Knit is a unique blend of nylon and cotton that provides warm, jumper-like comfort with a soft, luxurious feel. It's designed to retain heat while keeping cool where you need it most.
-Durable, Water-Repellent coating - Helps keep you dry in light rain so you stay comfortable wherever your day takes you.
-Sleek Style - The mesh pleated back panel moves beautifully with you while helping keep you cool.

-Mesh lining for breathability.
-One-piece hood fits naturally around your head.
-Two-way zip with storm flap to block the elements.
-Ribbed cuffs help keep the jacket in place.
-Dropped shoulder seams and back hem for a relaxed fit.
-Knit-in pockets for secure, hidden storage.
-Fabric: Body: 53% nylon/47% cotton. Cuffs: 56% nylon/42% cotton/2% elastane.
-Machine washable: Read the label, this is delicate fabric and it is expensive, you do not want to ruin it!

Spring '17 collection.
The new collection is designed to function within a seasonal temperature transition. During spring we are permanently exposed to climate changes in our immediate environment. Coming from outdoor to indoor, we’re feeling cold and warm and deal with wet and dry conditions. The quote ‘look good, feel good, play good’ inspired the deign team to create a head-to-toe look. They have designed a collection of innovative styles within Nike Tech Pack (includes Nike Tech Knit, Nike Tech Fleece, Tops and Tech Wovens), which offers diverse styling options for our individual needs.

This season, the second for Nike Tech Knit, the innovation is apparent in the pattern construction and, ultimately, in the form and appearance of the material. There are elements of performance and comfort, but also the intangible of being 'pulled-together'.

The new Nike Tech Knit Pant is a little more tapered, and a little bit more sophisticated than previous incarnations. There’s also a Nike Tech Knit Tee; a boy cut t-shirt, feminized so it’s more of a mock neck and the Nike Tech Knit Jacket, which draws inspiration from the iconic Nike Windrunner and serves as a lightweight parka. The remainder of the collection rounds out the essentials concept. Inspired by the manifold ways that today’s consumers style wardrobe essentials, Schneider and the Nike Sportswear design teams have produced new Nike Tech Knit silhouettes that can be easily worn together or on their own.

Final words.
I most certainly have to admit that the new Tech Collection is visually very appealing. It truly represents Nike's top of the line both in tech and in styling. It's not cheap by any means, if you want a suit it will set you back 350 euros. That might seem a bit much, but the most important part about looking great is feeling great and wouldn't you say that is priceless? The Spring 2017 Nike Tech Pack Collection for women is available starting January 26 on and at Nike Sportswear retailers.
